DoCast vs Mirror – Which One Works Better for Chromecast?
I've been trying to find the best app for screen mirroring to my Chromecast, and I've narrowed it down to two: DoCast vs Mirror for Chromecast. I'm mainly using it for watching videos from my iPhone and sometimes sharing photos during family gatherings. I noticed both apps advertise low latency and HD support, but it’s hard to tell how they actually perform until you use them for a bit. Some apps have connection dropouts, while others compress the quality a lot, especially when streaming something longer than 10-15 minutes. I'm not expecting perfection, but I’d rather go with something stable and smooth over time, even if it's not totally feature-packed. Anyone here used both? What’s your experience with things like delay, video quality, and ease of use?
I've tested both for a few weeks and honestly, they each have their quirks. With the first app, the setup is extremely straightforward—literally just connect and go—but I did notice a very slight delay when I was trying to mirror a YouTube video. It wasn’t a dealbreaker, but enough that I noticed audio was just a bit behind. On the other hand, the second one took a bit longer to connect at first, but once it was running, it seemed more consistent in maintaining quality over time. I’ve used it for a full hour during a party slideshow and it didn’t drop once. Also, navigating between albums and switching videos mid-cast felt more responsive. If you’re mostly sharing casual stuff like home videos or pics, either will do, but for longer viewing, I’d lean toward the one that gives you that steadiness.
